BNHA’s Participation in the Healthy Diet and Nutrition Awareness Campaign in Kamonyo District

Within participation of BNHA President, Mr. Gasana Ildephonse, on behalf of the Better Nutrition & Health for All (BNHA) proudly participated in a district-wide awareness campaign on healthy diet and nutrition in Kamonyo District. The initiative was closely aligned with BNHA’s mission to promote community well-being through evidence-based nutrition education, targeted capacity building, and the promotion of sustainable health practices. By engaging local stakeholders and empowering households with practical knowledge, BNHA made a meaningful contribution to strengthening community awareness and encouraging healthier dietary habits across the district.

Key Activities and Contributions

1. Community Nutrition Education

BNHA facilitated interactive education sessions focusing on:

  • The importance of balanced diets for children, adolescents, and adults

  • Identifying locally available nutrient-rich foods

  • Strategies to prevent malnutrition and diet-related diseases

  • Safe food handling and hygiene practices.

2. Demonstration of Healthy Meal Preparation

Trained nutritionists from BNHA led practical demonstrations designed to show households how to prepare affordable, diverse, and nutritious meals using locally sourced ingredients. Participants learned how to optimize food value through proper cooking methods and portion control.

3. Engagement with Vulnerable Groups

Special focus was given to pregnant and breastfeeding women, children under five, and low-income households. BNHA distributed educational materials and provided tailored guidance aimed at reducing stunting, enhancing maternal nutrition, and supporting healthy child growth.

4. Promoting Healthy Eating on a Budget

BNHA nutrition experts led informative sessions demonstrating how communities can maintain a balanced diet using locally available by:

  • Choosing seasonal fruits and vegetables

  • Preparing nutrient-dense meals using traditional ingredients

  • Reducing food waste through proper planning and storage

  • Understanding portion control and meal balance

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
